Why is Italian citizenship so popular?
You already know that Italy is a spectacularly beautiful country rich in culture and history, but did you also know that an Italian passport is one of the most powerful passports in the world (currently ranked at #2)?
Claiming your dual Italian citizenship comes with a lot of tangible benefits, especially since Italian citizens are also EU citizens. This gives Italian citizens access to not only Italy to live, work, and study without cumbersome and hard-to-get visas, but also the rest of the EU as well! And don’t forget that, as an Italian citizen, you no longer have any time/movement restrictions within the Schengen Zone, which means you have the freedom to stay in member countries without having to leave (non-EU citizens can only stay in member countries, including Italy, for 90 out of every 180 days). And the best part? If you’re eligible for Italian citizenship by descent, so are your children, grandchildren, and so on, so all of these benefits extend to future generations too! Application requirements vary drastically depending on location, so it’s important to have this step figured out first before you waste time and money collecting records you don’t need (or worse, not collecting things you should be).
- Are you applying at a consulate? Which consular jurisdiction do you fall under?
- Are you applying directly in Italy? If so, which comune?
- Do you have a 1948/other judicial case? Your direction will need to come from your lawyer.
